Toffee Dessert

The night before Carter was born, my cousin Myrna had us over for dinner. We were a year into medical school at the time and living in Maryland far away from any other family. She lived downtown close to Arlington National Cemetary so we didn't see her a lot. She made us the yummiest dinner!! I don't remember all the details, but I do recall amazing ribs and this dessert. It was seriously so nice, I recall that dinner and time spent with her family from time to time and it always warms my heart. I have a great heritage and family that I come from....the kind of people who always put family first and love unconditionally. Although we rarely have seen Myrna she went to all that trouble just for us. Thanks Myrna!
Jared loved the dessert so I made it for him once a few months later. It was yummy, but I lamented that I did not have a cool trifle dish like Myrna to put it in and make it look pretty. So ten years later....(not sure why it took that long), I finally purchased a trifle dish and voila Toffee Dessert for FHE tonight!! I think I will always remember Myrna and her kindness when I see this trifle dish and especially when we fill it with this particular dessert.

Here's the recipe:

Toffee Dessert

1 fudge brownie mix prepared, cooled, and crumbled (9/13 pan)
3 1/2 oz. mousse mix prepared, but not chilled (can substitute choc. pudding)
8 toffee flavored skor candy bars crushed
12 oz. cool whip container

Layers:
1/2 brownies
1/2 mousse/pudding
1/2 crushed candy bars
1/2 whipped topping

Do it twice and top with candy or choc. shavings (chill for 5-8 hours )

A "POOPY" day

Disclaimer: If you were grossed out by my toe last fall, then you might wanna just skip to the next post!!
Have you had any bad days recently? Last week I had one on Thursday where everything went wrong, I was frustrated and feeling sorry for myself. I recently weened Cole and now he is completely bottle fed.....its working great, but occasionally he has bad days where he spits up a lot or blows out more than usual. This day was a bad day for him too.....so I decided to laugh a little and take some pictures documenting his addition to my "poopy" day!! This particular day he had a total of 3 baths and 3 different outfits. Thanks Cole for keeping it real.

Glad you are enjoying yourself little man!!
p.s. I showed a little retstraint and didn't take a picture of the Bumbo chair at least !!

Rock - on

We have been talking about having an 80's party since Thanksgiving weekend. That's when Jared found this really fun website that plays old theme songs from TV shows from the past. You know like Who's the Boss, Different Strokes, Cosby Show, Remington Steele, Dynasty, Love Boat, Growing Pains, Family Ties etc.... So he worked really hard and turned it into a Jeopardy game where we had the couples compete against each other and try to guess their favorite TV shows from a small beginning clip of music. It turned out to be so much fun!! We invited some couples and had a great time!! (Amber and Kristen came together because Jake was moonlighting out of town and Joe is deployed)

We also rocked the neighborhood with some 80's Kareoke with our favorite Canadien DJ Emily. She came in pink sequins and was really good at getting those glued to their chairs up and rocking like super stars! Some how I was singing in know time with Melinda "I think were alone now" by Tiffany!! Then John Travolta and Olivia Newton John (aka The Taylors) entertained us with a very professionl version of Summer Love. Next Darin put on a show with some much too masculine Micheal Jackson dance moves and break dancing. We could have gone on all night with 80's rock band and Rubic's Cube contests, but had too much fun with 80's TV jepoardy and Kareoke.

DJ Emily and boy crazy Jen belting it out!!

"Beat It" by Micheal Jackson and "Living on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi The outfits were amazing everybody!! .....Jared and I gotta step it up next time....we just threw stuff together at the last minute since we were doing prep with getting computers hooked up for the games, food prep and what not, but oh so fun!! We spent half of the time laughing at each others outfits and joking about how now so many of the stores are now carrying 80's stuff....SCARY!! So who is the Totally Awesome 80's couple???? Drew and Melissa Swasey... hey with that wig you deserve to win!! Their prizes were movie tickets and candy. The two runner up couples got some candy along with a VHS used copy of Top Gun and Ferris Buellers Day Off!!

Bumbo

We are loving Cole's new Bumbo chair. It just makes you laugh the first time you put your little newborn into the thing with their little feet sticking straight out and they look up at you with a big grin on their face. These things are quite the invention. One of those things where you find yourself saying "Why didn't I think of that?" (who knew a big giant, squishy, ugly colored chair would be such a great idea!!) And for what they charge for the thing, I guess its a good thing Jake has found other uses for it so we feel like we got our money's worth. Its head gear for battle....????
