Running the Dam 5k with Patricia

Our T-shirts say Hoover Dam 6 Tunnels Race 2011 on the back it says "I finished the Dam Race!"  Patricia had these made up for all of us.

I was honored to be able to run this 5k with our friend Patricia.  She has struggled for about a year and a half with severe health problems affecting her muscles.  She has had to even walk with a walker at times.  Its been a struggle and continues to be a struggle for her but she set this goal to complete this race.  She invited family and friends to join her.

Patricia is in front.  She had to walk most of it, but ran here and there. (mostly to pass a severly weight challenged women who she couldn't stand to see beat her!)  Most of us ran it and then walked back to join her as she crossed the finish line.  It was an emotion filled race.  She had friends travel from Arizona and California to do this with her.  She is very loved.
As I ran this race this day my mind was flooded with lots of life lessons learned from running
You can keep going long after you can't.  You shouldn't compare yourself to the best others can do.  Dedication, hardwork, and perserverance are  as important and better traits to possess than mere intelligence.  Setting goals and accomplishing them makes you stronger.  We CAN do hard things. Failure to prepare for challenges in life makes those challenges very difficult (just like failure to train makes race day miserable)  People cheering you on really does help.  Life is better with the support of those who love you.  Patricia you are an inspiration to us all!
