On the Way down to the Eidelweiss Resort in Garmisch, we stopped at the famous Newschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles. Newschwanstein is known for being the castle that Walt Disney patterned the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland after. It however was under scaffolding this trip so we didn’t bother riding the tram up to see it. The Hohenschwangau is easier to walk around and you can walk from you car up to it. It was so cold that we didn’t wait for a tour of the inside. We were frozen after our 30 minutes of walking around it. For the record 10 degrees is really cold. Especially after enjoying four years lf Las Vegas Winters.
After this quick stop, we hit the road to Garmisch and the Eidelweiss Resort. The warm car and buffet were calling to us! Our first trip to Garmisch shortly after moving here we were a little dissapointed in the buffet after moving from the land of buffets and awesome restaurants. This time….not so much. Our perspective has changed and we thought it was fabulous. Ribs and chicken and salad bar hooray!
The next morning we headed out to find the perfect sledding hill. After searching for awhile we found one that was okay, but not awesome. We made the best of it and had a good time sledding and exploring. Later the bigger kids and Daddy found a better hill while mom and the little guys stayed warm in the car. As we were driving around I kept seeing the perfect German looking houses and wanted to stop often to take pictures. It was like a Winter Wonderland down there. They had just had a huge storm the week before and lots of snowfall.
We were impressed with this awesome looking snow MAN with a realistic face. Crazy eh? Jake spotted it for us and we almost didn’t believe him until we drove past it again all saw it for ourselves.
Another perfect German house:
Our room was awesome this time. It had a room with two queen sized beds, a pull out couch, and a staircase/loft area with another queen size bed. It also had two full bathrooms. Perfect for us. We all loved it….the first night Cole entertained us. He was on the pull out with all the other kids in the room. Jared and I were up in the loft. He was all wound up and kept saying the funniest things that would make the big kids laugh so none of us could sleep. He’s quite the character.
This is the loft area where the kids spent lots of time playing their map game. They had a handwritten map of their ficticious kingdom that showed what was each King’s area. They are really quite creative. I think Carter was the mastermind behind this one. Oh how they love this lodge!

Winter in Germany....Burr.... I remember well the winter when Andrew was just a newborn and we were viewing some of Germany. The your photos of the mountains - Do you take all of them... Especially wonder about the beginning photo... It is just too... spectacular.
Am enjoying the family shots... it makes it all so real with the surreal shots of the castles with their ornamentation, the lovely German houses, the snow-capped peaks and even the fun German realistic snowman. The education for the children on your spontaneous field trips is priceless.
Your kids are so lucky that you and Jared make it such a point to spend such quality time as a family.
