Ludwigsburg Palace Grounds and gourd festival

Ludwigsburg Palace is considered the Versaille of Germany.  What began as a hunting lodge grew quickly into a much larger project.  Original construction began in 1704 and followed the Renaissanice style popular at that time.

We drove past the palace and saw some parking signs.  So we went to turn in to one, but missed the turn.  So we made a U-turn and were going to flip back around when we saw a sign for parking just inside the Palace gate.  So we pulled in and asked the security guard where to park.  He ushered us through the gate and showed us a little lot right in the palace courtyard.  We couldn't believe it....we felt like we were pulling into our own special parking place!  Honey were HOME!

The gardens are extensive and beautiful.

 Dieter enjoyed the nice afternoon

The real reason we went was for this gourd festival that they have here every year.  This years theme was dinosaurs.  These gourd statues were very impressive!  The Flake's joined us for the fun.

After looking at the many different types of gourds, I started naming them.

"Acne"
This one is "Snake" and this one "Swan" and below we have: "Pickle" and "Cabbage"

These ones are affectionately named "Dinosaur terd", "Pear", and "Owl"

These ones are: "Strawberry", "Onion", and "Kiwi"
This one is just perfect
It was a gorgeous day and afternoon!
