Frankenstein’s Castle

010
Over Veteran’s Day we got together at the Johnson’s house to play games and hang out.  The next morning before we headed home, we decided to swing by Frankenstein’s Castle.  It was decorated for the Haunted House that they turn it into every October and they were just taking down everything.  It was still very cool!  Jared decided that the Haunted House was a must for next year.  I’m not so sure after doing some research online…..very scary stuff!!  This is what one website said about the Haunted House:
No Germany travel is complete without you having the fright of your life at Germany's Frankenstein Castle during Halloween 2009. Every year more 600,000 people visit Burg Frankenstein to have the living daylights scared out of them as unknown creatures roam the grounds starting at dusk looking for a victim, any victim.
What makes this event so unique is that you freely walk the castle grounds leaving yourself open like prey to the over 77 grotesque monsters, howling werewolves, long-nosed witches, and of course the evening's host, the seven foot Frankenstein, who is madly looking for his bride.
This Halloween event is no joke. I've seen the monsters grab innocent girls, place them in a coffin, lock it, and leave them there as they scream until they can no longer scream. Eventually, the monsters will let them out, and as they are released from their terror, they walk in a gaze, shaken and often broken, stuttering and clinging onto any warm being for safety. The others watch in amazement and laugh until they are taken as the next victim to an area of the over 3000 square meters of horror.
The castle dating back to around 1252, contains several Halloween areas including the Ballsall der Vampire (Vampire Ballroom), Turm der Schreckens (Tower of Horrors), Hexenwald (Witches Forest), as well as food, drink and music.
Before you attempt to visit the castle grounds during Halloween, you need to know what you are getting yourself into. This is hard core fright, not recommended for children at all (There is a children's event if you want your kids to join in the Halloween fun). If you, as an adult, take the risk, no amount of screaming will get you out of the situation you pay for and put yourself into.
Flash lights, sharp items, weapons, umbrellas, cans and such are not allowed in the grounds. The only thing you should bring is 20 EUROS for the entrance fee and a couple of adult diapers. Baby wipes are optional.

How about a bed with a hundred spikes in it or babies stuck to pitchforks by devilish looking people.

This door was one of the neatest parts of the whole castle….it led to a staircase to a dungeon maybe?  They stopped us when we tried to explore down there.  The kids played Sardines and had a great time staying hidden for a long time.

I was a bit fascinated with the weddings taking place at the castle while we were there. I half expected Frankenstein himself to pop out and claim these brides!! I can’t imagine dreaming of getting married at Frankenstein’s castle!

I loved the outside and grounds leading up to the castle as much as the rest of it.

Luke just came up to me and said 'I want to go back to that place with the spikes on the bed where somebody sleeps outside'. I had no idea he even noticed that bed. I had to take him to your blog so he could see it again. Creepy place -- I'm NOT going to the Halloween festivities.
