London Day #3

Okay…..we were dragging at this point.  A late night at Wicked and two hard days of travel behind us and we were tired.  We headed to the British Museum to check it out.  All of the Museums are free in London…..nice because absolutely nothing else is a bargain in London.  It is a very expensive city to visit.   And apparently I can’t get enough of the red phone booths…… I didn’t even include all of the red phone booth pictures in these posts.

Inside the museum…..we were greeted by the Rosetta Stone.  Yes the actual one!  Super cool.

And they were having a big exhibit on Egyptian Sarcophagi…..so we headed their next.

The exhibit included some bodies that had been discovered that were still intact due to being preserved either in sand or dirt.  They were so gross yet so captivating at the same time.  We didn’t want to stare and take in all the details, but then we found ourselves fixated on them.

I can’t remember how old this one was, but it still has hair if you look closely.

After that I was quite happy to visit some statues that weren’t so “life like”…. Like this one of Venus the Goddess of Love.  Also the gallerie with sculptures recovered from the Parthenon in Greece was pretty darn cool.  It got us prematurely excited for our trip to Greece NEXT summer.

Josh was deciphering the Rosetta Stone Replica.

Carter has studied this Japanese artist in school and really likes his work.  So we let him get a really cool souvenier to take home for his room.  364 copy366 copy

Next we swung by Kings Cross Station and Platform 9 and 3/4 to see if any of our favorite people from the Wizarding World  happened to be hanging around, and they weren’t but it was fun to try and enter the platform anyway!

Jake and Josh got these cool souveniers:  Josh got a Horcrux necklace and Jake a Time Turner Necklace.

Then we headed toward the St. Paul Cathedral which was impressive and OH so massive!

The Cathedral is located right by the Milennium Bridge that is destroyed in the Harry Potter 7 movie….so we thought we go check it out.  It is very modern and Space aged looking.

At this point we were pretty tired and hungry so we went back to the Tai Restaurant right by our flat and then took the kids back.  Jared and I snuck out a little bit later to go try out some night time photography.  London is the perfect city for this!  It was so much fun.  It so nice having babysitters built right into our family now!

They had lots of extra lights on everything due to the Olympics.  We were their during the Closing Ceremonies.  It was lots of fun to try out different settings on the camera and use my Tripod that I don’t get out nearly enough!

We were a little bummed when we realized that Parliament was only half lit, they had left the far side from Big Ben dark so that they could project scenes from the Olympics onto the side of Parliament.  So I guess that was cool anyway!

In London they have all of the intersections painted with LOOK RIGHT…..to remind tourists that cars are coming from the opposite way so they don’t accidently jump out in front one. This on the last morning while we are about to get on to our shuttle back to the airport to head home!  AWESOME WEEKEND!!!  And it almost cost as much as our 9 day trip to Spain.  Not AWESOME.
