100 Lessons for Josh

Its been reading lesson time for Josh around our house for the past several months.  We started way back in September and finished our last lesson right after Spring Break.  Its an accomplishment for not only Josh, but for his mom too.  We have slaved for hours at the table making it part of our homework routine.  Its not easy to learn to read.  It takes persistence, patience, dedication, and lots and lots of time.  It sounds like a lot of other things in life actually!  If you can learn to read, you can do anything, Josh!

Education is very important in our family.  It is one of our four pillars:  LOVE…..Loyalty, Obedience, Virtue, and Education.  Your future is bright Josh…..you have been the easiest to teach so far out of all the kids.  You were a little bit older too since we moved and got a later start.  You just ate up all the information and stuck to it!  This year has been an adjustment, getting up for all day kindergarten at 6:30 am and joining the big kids routine is not easy when you are SIX!  You are a champ little man!  Mom and Dad are so proud of you!

This is an example of one of the last lessons…..There are words to sound out, then the story to read, and then the writing portion of each lesson.  The stories are pretty long and contain some pretty big words for a kindergartener.

Josh was very particular about his writing.  It was much more neat than our other kids.  He hardly ever get an “alpha alligator” that would chomp the parts that were not in the right areas.  April-May 005 copyApril-May 014 copy          April-May 022 copy

Josh has the cutest giggle…..I can almost hear it when looking at this picture!  April-May 023 copy

Here is our “Thinking Man”  all smart and ready for life…….

Josh and I got to go out on a special night for finishing reading lessons.  It’s a big deal at our house.  He chose to go to all you can eat Pizza at the Community Center on base, then to the BX for Baskin Robbins Ice cream, and then to the store to pick out a toy.  You deserve it little man!

While at dinner, we talked all about his school and life.  These are the questions and answers:

1.  What does Mommy do all day?  Teach Harrison piano, on Tuesdays take care of kids, take Cole to the library, go to the BX to get some stuff sometimes, make lunch in the morning for us, take care of Cole, help with homework, go to the Commissary to get food for us.

2.  Where do you want to live someday after Germany?  Utah

3.  Where do you want to go on a mission?  Spain or America or Germany or China

4.  Do you know the months of the year?  Yes, we do it to the Macarena dance….and then proceeded to show me. (so cute!)

5.  What do you want to be when you grow up?  A Doctor like my Dadda same as dadda.

6.  What do you like at your School?  P.E. and Centers.

7.  What do you do at Recess Time?  run around the whole playground.  Luke and Brett sometimes come with me.

8.  What centers does Ms. Cepeda have?  blocks (colored with dinosaurs, games and puzzles)

9.  What do you like about Ms. “J” and Mr. Sims?  Ms. J is really nice and Mr. Sims gets to pick what playground we go to.

10. What do you like to do in P.E.?   I like running around the whole gym and cafeteria.

11.  Who are your best friends this year?  Lucas, Brett, and Aedan…. and Sawyer?  No because he says bad words now.  I tried to get him to stop, but he wouldn’t.  What does he say?  I can’t say it because its really bad…..you can tell me and you won’t get in trouble this one time…..okay he says STUPID, over and over and won’t stop even when I ask him too.

12.  Do you have an girlfriends?  No.  Do you have any girls in your class that you think are nice?  Esperanza is a nice girl because she’s always really polite and says thank you to the teacher.
