This is how we woke up on the morning of August 8th. Happy and excited to finally get our stuff! We moved into our house on July 30th and had been living on what we brought in our suitcases and what we had packed in our first 2000 lbs. for 6 weeks. The night before we cleared all of the loner furniture into our garage and mopped all of the floors in preparation of our goods.
Our big shipment of goods came on August 8th. We were more than ready.....and knew things were going to get really busy. With a trip planned for a little over a week later, we had a good deadline to keep us motivated to get a lot done quickly. Things went okay on moving day. The movers weren't the most motivated bunch and with the language barrier...it was interesting at times. Jared had to jump in and help quite a bit to ensure things would make it off the truck safely. There were no dollies or ramps to help with the biggest items. It was a bit frustrating. Jared woke up the next morning in a lot of pain. After limping around for two days he got an MRI of his knee to reveal what he thought to be the case: a torn meniscus with a piece broken off. I guess he shouldn't have helped as much with the heavy items?
Our house is located on a really narrow street so it took several tries before they got the truck backed into the right spot.
Our stuff was packed in crates way back in Vegas. They really pack it with lots of paper all the way around each item when you move over seas. We had 13 crates and they roughly estimate that each one weighs 1,000 lbs. We are only allowed 18 or 20,000 so we did well according to the estimate at least!
It took all day to unpack the 13 crates. They got here at 8 am and left at 6:30. It was a long day.
My birthday was two days later. I spent the day unpacking like a crazy lady. Jared had to work. Not the best birthday I've ever had, but that night we all went out to Macaroni Grill on Base for dinner. The kids were so well behaved. It was the first time in a decade that I actually thought that there might be hope for my family dining out together without being the "side show". It was the best Birthday surprise from my kids. When we got home I opened my boxes (the ones I picked out on line not from the moving truck!). I got new boots, shoes, and jeans, and a map of Germany to satisfy my map fetish. It was a nice evening with the family. I also got to talk to my two sisters, brother and parents. They tried really hard all day to reach me. We are still trying to work out our phone situation here so it meant a lot that they kept trying and finally I got in touch with them!

Sounds like base is awesome. And so glad you got your shipment OK. I always feared mine would be the one that would somehow fall off the boat. I'm sure your kids were so excited to see all of their things. Hope setting up the house went smoothly. Is Jared going to have to have surgery?
