This picture is titled “Hooray, I’m in Italy with NO KIDS”!
Our couples trip to Cinque Terra was a blast! We flew in to the Pisa airport and had an hour an a half before we needed to catch our train, so we caught a taxi to the Leaning Tower of Pisa! It was a beautiful day there. So what do you do when you are on vacation without kids? Immediately turn into a kid again…..We wasted no time reverting to childish behavior…
The Cinque Terre is a rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera. It is in the Liguria region of Italy, to the west of the city of La Spezia. "The Five Lands" is composed of five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Over the centuries, people have carefully built terraces on the rugged, steep landscape right up to the cliffs that overlook the sea. Part of its charm is the lack of visible corporate development. Paths, trains and boats connect the villages, and cars cannot reach them from the outside.
We rode the train to the Cinque Terra and got off in Vernazza where our hotel was located. We loved our room right in the center of town and this lovely coast line waiting to greet us!
Waves really were crashing in at this time of day:
Vernazza does not disappoint! The village was pretty from all times of the day. WE ate at the top of the village and got great views as the sun started going down.
