Eze-le-Village is perched high on a rocky cliff that overlooks the Mediterranean Sea just west of Monaco and East of Nice France. It has stunning views at every angle. I would have loved to have had clear blue skies, but it was still a great evening visit.
These are our favorite types of cities in Europe. They entertain you just by being there with their craggy, cobblestoned streets, unique architecture, and one of a kind restaurants and stores. Eze-le-Village is a new found favorite!
Our plan was to meet up with the Johnsons (who were touring with their friends from Georgia The Starbucks), that evening at the hotel in Villa Franche. Our kids were getting anxious to get to the hotel so we could see them. Ironically, as we were peering over one of the many ledges and looking down on the roads below where you walk UP to Eze-le-Village, we saw them all hiking up the hill to tour here too! WE started yelling and hollering at them until they could see us. It was a crazy fun moment. They weren’t all surprised to see us since they had spotted our VAN in the parking lot below (It isn’t hard to pick out the American mini-vans since they are few and far between in EUROPE). How funny we thought it was so surprising to see them…..and they were like “oh hey guys, we already knew you were here”! It won’t be too many more weeks that we can “bump” into our friends the Johnsons in Europe before they head back to the United States.
Le Cactus is this really fun restaurant built into the rock of Eze-le-Village. It was a Rick Steve’s recommendation and we support him fully on this one! The food was great, but the atmosphere was the best part. The dining area inside felt like a cave that they had opened up to make room for tables, seating, and the kitchen. The bathroom was literally a whole in the wall. It was a great place to eat and enjoy Eze fully. Fun stuff!
Mostly we got these savory crepes filled with mushrooms, goat cheese, ham and white cheese. It so interesting how they came with the four sides folded. The little boys got sweet crepes with strawberries and chocolate.
