After packing out the house and having a few water catastrophies (pipes not hooked up properly in the kitchen sink:) and bathroom showers), we headed out toward Geneva Switzerland. Sort of on the way home….. we decided it was a good opportunity to check Geneve Switzerland off the to do list! (of course I had to go….)
Geneva Switzerland is mostly known for the banks and friendly nature…..and one of its major landmarks is this fountain:
The Jet d'Eau is a large fountain in Geneva, Switzerland, and is one of the city's most famous landmarks. It is also one of the largest fountains in the world, it is visible throughout the city.
Five hundred litres (132 gallons) of water per second are jetted to an altitude of 140 metres (459 feet). The water leaves the nozzle at a speed of 200 km/h (124 mph). When it is in operation, at any given moment there are about 7,000 litres (1849 gallons) of water in the air.
You can walk out to the fountain along this stone levy from the side of the lake…..not very wide and no railings only in Europe! The wind changes directions a lot and you find yourself getting soaked as you walk out to the fountain. You also experience several rainbows from all angles as the sun sets behind you.
At some points the rainbows even extended into the water going almost in a complete circle…..so unique!
After exploring the waterfront and buying some much needed Geneve Switzerland souveniers, we headed to our hotel just over the border not too far from the lake in France. It was cheap and stinky, and another not favorite sleeping experience. We could not leave fast enough in the morning….I was ready to go home!!
